It is estimated that only about 18% of Americans regularly attend church. What is more is this percentage has been decreasing for decades. If the present trend continues only about 11% of US residents will be in a church service on any given Sunday in the year 2050 (7 Startling Facts: An Up Close Look at Church Attendance in America). It would seem that to most Americans, church simply doesn’t matter.
So do the masses have it right? Is the idea of church just an antiquated holdover from a bygone era? Do we really need to go to church in order to follow Jesus? And does church really have a vital purpose for our spiritual lives?
